Walnuts in shell keep reasonably well for at least nine months after harvesting. They keep much better than walnut kernels (flesh) that has not been vacuum packed. The seed is a shriveled shell enclosing the edible kernel which is covered by a thin bitter tasting sheath. Walnuts in general have a bitter nutty flavour.

How to use
Walnuts can be consumed raw or in desserts such as brownies, bread, kheer etc. They are also used to make oils.
